The Story of Missouri’s Expanding Coverage Initiative
The Expanding Coverage Initiative is a five-year investment of Missouri Foundation for Health aimed at dramatically increasing enrollment in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. As part of this work, the Foundation built and coordinated a broad-based coalition—the Cover Missouri Coalition—to reach individuals across the state who were most likely to be uninsured, including people of color and individuals who were low-income or unemployed.
A Mission to Improve Health: The Story of Missouri’s Expanding Coverage Initiative takes a retrospective look at the Expanding Coverage Initiative, which ended in 2018. This report offers lessons to inform future work of Missouri Foundation for Health, as well as Cover Missouri Coalition partners, other funders, and those working to advance broader health care access.
In 2021, the evaluation team published a Foundation Review article showing how we used retrospective evaluation to explore the initiative’s lessons and legacy and share key insights for other funders looking to support efforts to advance health care coverage.
