Armand Gutierrez, PhD works with foundations, nonprofits, and public agencies to help them build their capacity to learn from their policy and systems change efforts. Armand is passionate about facilitating social change through the support of data-informed practices and has a strong commitment to ensure diverse voices and perspectives are heard. He has a strong background in mixed-methods research design and culturally responsive community engagement.

Armand began his community change work in the Community Programs Office at UCLA where he worked with students and parents in Belmont and Marshall High School to support their efforts in accessing higher education. He then pursued research in sociology, psychology, and education before eventually pursuing his doctorate in sociology where he specialized in understanding the economic conditions of immigrants, families, and communities on a global scale. During his doctoral studies, he learned a variety of research methods that he continues to use in his evaluation work. Prior to joining Engage R+D, Armand worked in the nonprofit sector where he partnered with community leaders to identify and address issues across education and public health in South LA.

Armand offers expertise in community-based participatory research and mixed-methods research design to support the learning process. In his work, he strives for collaboration, equity, and problem-solving to achieve client goals.
