Serena Ruiz

Serena is a researcher and translator who has worked on public health projects in the US and Mexico. Serena’s work is motivated by her deep curiosity, profound enjoyment of observational research, and keen attention to detail. She is as skilled in Spanish as in English and is passionate about empowering underserved populations through her work.

Serena’s background growing up in the Tijuana-San Diego border region has equipped her with bilingual and bicultural skills critical to making US and international projects a success. She began her career working as a research assistant and translator on a study of domestic violence in San Diego and Mexico City for San Diego State University. Since then, she has spent the past 20 years working with the San Diego State University Research Foundation and the University of California to research cross-border health issues from HIV/STI risk and substance abuse to measuring the impact of built and social environments on health.

At Engage R+D, Serena uses her skills to provide research, translation, and administrative support. She is fluent in Spanish.
